Horizontal XSection and HMG Strata Log, created by Horizontal Mudlog & Geosteering Inc, are graphical WYSIWYG software programs for horizontal and vertical wells. Horizontal XSection displays a detailed two-dimensional cross-section of the borehole, allowing the geologist to quickly view all necessary features. Moreover, the integration of geo-steering technology sets this software apart, facilitating informed and intelligent geo-steering decisions.
TVD Precision: Employing the minimum curvature algorithm (the same formulas used by the major directional drilling companies), Horizontal XSection calculates the true vertical depth (TVD), as well as vertical section (VS), the north/south (NS) and east/west (EW) coordinates, and the dogleg (DLS) severity, for all survey points and for each measured depth between survey points. This provides the well-site geologist and their clients the information they need, at a glance, and simplifies the data entry process.
Pay Zone Accuracy: Need to know the calculated TVD at which you drilled in or out of the pay zone? Simply move the mouse to any point on the lateral in question, and the interpolated survey information is displayed in the status bar on the bottom of the window.
Professional Logs: Want to display survey information on your log? Formatted survey data, in any font, size, color and background color, can quickly be imported to your log with the click of the mouse(and without typing a word). The log can display up to 6 separate lateral curves that you identify and format them to your needs. These can include the well plan, or multiple laterals and/or sidetracks.
Geosteering Tool: The integrated geosteering tool allows comparison of TVD logs with LWD data. For example, real-time gamma data can be correlated with a TVD gamma log (i.e. offset log, pilot hole log, etc.) that has been loaded into the program.
Comprehensive Features: Horizontal XSection offers a host of extra features designed specifically for the well-site geologist. For example, Horizontal XSection makes drawing lithology beds simple, and offers the ability to put in faults and dipping beds with the rotate lithology tool. Moreover, Gamma logs (or any log type) can be imported into the cross-section to faciliate correlation, and the log opacity set to any desired value for better log integration.

With more than 14 years of experience as a well-site geologist and mudlogger, Horizontal Mudlog’s Peter Falk has personally logged thousands of lateral feet on dozens of horizontal wells.
